Clara Shin lives for pranks and disruption. When she takes one joke too far, her dad sentences her to a summer working on his food truck, the KoBra, alongside her uptight classmate Rose Carver. Not the carefree summer Clara had imagined. But maybe Rose isn’t so bad. Maybe the boy named Hamlet (yes, Hamlet) crushing on her is pretty cute. Maybe Clara actually feels invested in her dad’s business. What if taking this summer seriously means that Clara has to leave her old self behind? (from Goodreads)
*little life update: the pandemic swept in and it’s been one hell of a year. I didn’t have time or the energy or even the spirit to pick up and read. it’s been depressing. even though things aren’t back to where they were before, they are getting better so I’m back. hopefully I can stay on track this time.*
Review:
so I picked up TWYMMF right after I read the Lara Jean Series, expecting a similar vibe butttttt…sadly I was not loving this book. Clara and Rose get in trouble at school and it’s decided they will work together on her father’s food truck for the whole summer as a punishment. During this time, a wonderful friendship blossoms and Clara also meets a cute boy who works near the truck. I expected the book to be funny, cute and full of romance. I was half way through the book and I wasn’t connecting with the main character, Clara. At all. She just didn’t have any qualities or traits that made her likable or for me to even care about her. I felt like I was being “told” that Clara and Rose hated each other as opposed to truly seeing it. What I mean to say is, I feel like they got over their quarrel rather quickly. It came off as if they truly couldn’t stand each other so I kinda felt like it could’ve been dragged out a bit longer to make it more believable. Her relationship with Hamlet was too mellow, I wasn’t seeing the attraction or feeling the sparks between them. I would’ve liked to see some more romance. I did like the food and culinary aspects in the story, I thought it was done very well and also Clara’s relationship with her dad. All-in-all I thought TWYMMF was gunna be a good read but it failed to meet my expectations.
